Patriots Give Encouraging Update On Running Back James White

The Patriots nation was really worried about running back James White, and his role in Sunday’s match against the Baltimore Ravens.

The third-down running back was considered questionable for the match due to a toe injury. His status wasn’t changed, but NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport provided an encouraging update on White.

New England can’t afford another injured player, and the running back is one of Tom Brady’s most favorite targets. The team is definitely careful with him.

Running back Rex Burkhead (foot), safety Patrick Chung (heel/chest), wide receiver Julian Edelman (chest/shoulder), tight end Ryan Izzo (concussion), tight end Matt LaCosse (knee), Shaq Mason (ankle), wide receiver Gunner Olszewski (ankle/hamstring) and running back James White (toe) were listed as questionable.

All eight players were limited participants in Friday’s practice. White has played in every game of the regular season, and he was a new addition to the injury report.

Izzo and LaCosse missed the last two games due to their injuries. Eric Tomlinson was released, meaning at least one of these two will be playing against the Ravens. Ben Watson is the only tight end on the 53-man roster. Mason was limited participant this week, and sat out the game against the Browns.

When it comes to White, the only game he missed was the preseason clash scheduled at the same time as the birth of his baby.

“It’s definitely an exciting moment in life,” the veteran running back and team co-captain said. “I always wanted to be a dad. Your wife goes through a lot giving birth to a kid, so it’s an exciting moment for the both of us.

“And then for us to be able to watch the game with him being there, even though he was asleep and everything, it was a great experience, and I’m happy those guys went out and played well and got a big division win.”

He didn’t join his team for the game, and felt sort of bad.

“It was definitely weird,” White said. “It felt like I wasn’t a part of the team for a second. But those guys, they went out and played well. Rex played a lot, Brandon played a lot, Sony (Michel) and those guys did a great job. Like I said, it was a big division win.”

“Like you’ve seen, we’ve had quite a few guys have babies during this season, so they’ve been supportive,” White said of head coach Bill Belichick’s decision to let him be with his wife. “Obviously, that’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so he’s let our guys experience it.”
