Patriots Players Reacts To Colin Kaepernick’s Potential Return To NFL

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick hasn’t played a NFL game since his social justice protests in 2016. The former San Francisco 49ers signal-caller was kneeling during the playing of the national anthem in order to protest against social injustice. The free agent will hold a private workout on Saturday in Atlanta. At least three New England Patriots players would love to have Kaepernick back in the NFL. Many teams confirmed their attendance. Safety Devin McCourty is one of them.

McCourty supports Colin Kaepernick

According to McCourty, Kaepernick has been trying to get back in the NFL, adding that a lot of players watched him play. In other words, McCourty believes that the quarterback deserves a chance to be in the league. The safety really hopes that Kaepernick will show up.

The quarterback needs to get consideration for a job in the league, because he was really talented on the field. McCourty is pretty sure that Kaepernick can play on Sundays, and that’s pretty much everything we noticed. This isn’t a big deal for other players, but it’s definitely a big deal for the quarterback. He gave up a lot of things to stands up for something he believes in, and it’s about time that he gets recognition for that. Hopefully, the quarterback will get signed and plays football again.

“I think that’s awesome for him, a guy that’s been fighting to try to get back in the league,” McCourty said Wednesday. “I think, from a player standpoint, a lot of guys have watched him play football and truly believe he deserves a shot to be in this league. I think it’s cool to see and I just hope something comes out of it. I hope people show up.

“I hope he gets consideration for an actual job in the NFL because he played good football when he was out there. When you look across the league, from a talent level standpoint, everybody that watches — we know this guy can play on Sundays. I think for us as players, it’s not as big of a deal. I think for him though, that’s what matters. Because everything he’s given up to stand up for something he believes in, I think it would be awesome to see him get signed and get to play football again.”

Colin gets full support

McCourty, tight end Ben Watson and safety Duron Harmon are in the Players Coalition. They fight against social injustice. Kaepernick isn’t part of this, but the Patriots players will really support his efforts to rejoin the NFL.

Watson says he is all about any player who wants to play and is able to do that. Every player deserves a chance to play, and he is pretty excited about the workout. The quarterback has been working for quite some time, and he really needs his chance.

“I’m all about anyone who wants to play and had the ability to,” Watson said. “I’m all for anybody getting the chance to play. I heard about the workout. I know he’s been working out and prepared for a long time. Hopefully, he gets another chance to play because he deserves it.”
The Patriots will send someone at the workout. Head coach Bill Belichick and director of player personnel Nick Caserio will travel with the Patriots to Philadelphia for the Patriots’ game against the Eagles. Why did the NFL schedule Kaepernick’s workout on Saturday? Most teams are off Tuesdays.

Harmon is excited about this opportunity and he supports the quarterback.

“I’m just excited that he gets an opportunity,” Harmon said. “He’s been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. He’s a guy that a lot of people in this league pull for because he was the first one who really put social injustice out there and on the map for the NFL. I’m rooting for him. I’m hoping the workout goes better than everybody expects, and hopefully, he gets another opportunity to play in the league.”
