Report: Patriots Will Be Represented At Colin Kaepernick’s Workout

Free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick will have a private workout in front of NFL teams Saturday in Atlanta. However, head coach Bill Belichick didn’t quite confirm whether his team would be in attendance. That’s what the head coach said Wednesday.

Belichick said he’d check this with Nick Caserio, adding that he isn’t really sure about it.

The Boston Globe’s Jim McBride confirmed that the New England Patriots actually will have a representative at the practice.

Caserio is the Patriots’ director of player personnel. He wasn’t available for comment to the media.

Head coach Belichick deferred to Caserio this season when asked if New England had been active at the NFL trade deadline.

The Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions have both confirmed they’ll be in attendance Saturday. Lions head coach Matt Patricia and Dolphins head coach Brian Flores are Belichick disciples. Patricia was a defensive coordinator with the Patriots before joining the Dolphins in 2018. Flores was a linebackers coach and defensive play-caller for the Patriots before going to Miami this season.

Kaepernick protested social injustice by taking a knee during the national anthem before games. This pushed him away from the NFL, and he hasn’t played since 2016. In that season, the quarterback completed 59.2 percent of his passes for 2,241 yards and 16 touchdowns and four interceptions in 12 games. He helped the San Francisco 49ers make the Super Bowl in 2012, and that was his first season as a starter. San Francisco went back to the NFC Championship Game with the help of Kaepernick in 2013.

The New England Patriots don’t need a quarterback

The Patriots don’t really need a quarterback. Tom Brady is starter, and rookie backup Jarrett Stidham is also here. The Patriots have third-stringer Cody Kessler on the roster, too. TB12 is in the final year of his contract with the team, and he is set to become free agent in March.

New England hosts free-agent workouts every week during the regular season, and we wouldn’t be surprised if they “went out of due diligence.”

The Patriots are playing the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. It’s an important game for the team, and they hope to win it.
