Patriots’ Tom Brady Reacts To Ugly Loss Vs. Texans

The New England Patriots had another tough night against the Houston Texans on Sunday. For a team that started so hot, the problems with the offense have since shown up in a big way.

The Patriots looked like a once invincible boxer, who no longer intimidates opponents in Sunday night’s 28-22 loss. The final score makes the game look closer than it really felt. New England’s terrific defense looked human and for most of the game, the offense was simply bad. Optimists are going to point to the illness plaguing the team and hope it had something to do with it. But the offense wasn’t playing well long before influenza arrived.

It all starts with Tom Brady, whose stat line wasn’t bad, but that doesn’t pain the full picture. Brady’s stat line ended up pretty decent, going 24-of-47 for 326 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. But the game wasn’t as close as the 28-22 score might indicate.

They scored a couple of meaningless touchdowns late after getting down 28-9. Tom Brady seems to understand what is on the line right now.

“Just execution, just have to do a better job. It’s tough to get behind and come back. We put ourselves in a pretty deep hole and you can’t do that on the road,” Brady said after the game. “We didn’t get the job done. A loss is a loss, and learn from it and try to move on to next week.”

One of the biggest reasons for the struggle offensively is the lack of receivers for Brady to throw the ball to. This isn’t the first game where this issue has come up. But wide out Julian Edelman doesn’t seem to worried yet.

“I think we’ll be all right. What I did see is a team that fought to the end, so you can take that and you can build off that,” Edleman said. “It was ugly out there a little bit here and there. We didn’t play the way we wanted to. But you got to tip your hat to Houston. They played a helluva game.”

Texans did play well, but it was ultimately the Patriots’ lack of offense that sealed the deal. And until they figure these problems out, it might be more of the same.

It isn’t the end of the world. The Patriots still have a record of 10-2 and are arguably one of the best teams in the league. But if they are looking towards a future Super Bowl bid, improvements need to be made.

The loss in Houston Texans dropped New England out of first place in the AFC standings, greatly increasing the importance of this Sunday’s home matchup against Patrick Mahomes and the 8-4 Kansas City Chiefs. The Patriots also have one game remaining against the 9-3 Buffalo Bills, who trail them by just one game in the AFC East.
