Potential Patriots Kicker Replacement Claimed By Colts Off Waivers

The New England Patriots are looking for a kicker, but they have to give up on the idea of signing Chase McLaughlin. The kicker made 7 of 8 field-goal attempts and 8 of 8 extra points as a replacement in San Francisco. The 49ers waived him on Tuesday, but he was claimed by the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday.

The undrafted rookie was considered a replacement for Kai Forbath, especially after New England didn’t re-sign Nick Folk.

Folk had an emergency appendectomy last week and was released by the team. He still had a stall in the locker room last Friday, but the nameplate is removed. The locker still had the same helmet and shoulder pads in it. The Patriots may have tried to claim McLaughlin, but failed in the attempt. In other words, they may bring Folk back to the field.

New replacement for Forbath

What will McLaughlin bring to the Indianapolis Colts and Adam Vinatieri? Vinatieri has the worst season of his 24-year career, and he was limited in Wednesday’s session. According to sources, he is dealing with a knee ailment, and this may be injury insurance. However, if the Colts plan to cut ties with the 46-year-old, would New England consider a reunion? Vinatieri was with the team from 1996 through 2005.

Vinatieri converted just 68 percent of his field-goal tries this season and missed a league-high six extra points on 28 attempts.

New England has employed four kickers this season. Stephen Gostkowski, Mike Nugent, Folk, and Forbath spent some time on the field, and the team has no kicker on their 53-man roster at the moment.

Tom Brady and the Patriots are hosting the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Gillette Stadium. It will be a big game for the team, and the offense better get ready for the Chiefs. The offense has made a lot of terrible mistakes so far, and Brady is really upset with the lack of performance. Of course, the Patriots are 11-2 at this point in the season, and they still have a chance to win the Super Bowl. But, Brady isn’t really confident about this.
