Patriots’ 2016 Second Round Pick Cyrus Jones Undergoes Open-Heart Surgery

NFL players can’t really predict their future, because injuries happen overnight. A minor injury can turn into something big. Some players deal with a specific health condition that puts an end to their season. Sometimes it’s a career-ending condition. Cyrus Jones had a scare earlier this week, and his tenure with the New England Patriots took an unexpected turn.

Jones is playing with the Denver Broncos now. He had an open-heart surgery to fix his anomalous coronary artery which makes an artery grow in the wrong place. The 26-year-old player shared an Instagram post about his condition, and he thanked everyone for their love and support.

Cyrus Jones was shocked

Jones couldn’t believe that he’d need open-heart surgery. It’s far from a routine procedure, and having this in the middle of the season is the least expected scenario. He had been living with that condition his whole life. But, he had to undergo surgery, and it wasn’t easy for him to make a decision.

“When my doctor told me I would need open heart surgery I couldn’t believe what he had just said. Especially for something that I had been living with my whole life. It took me some time to fully grasp what that meant. Stuck in between wanting to feel sorry for myself, hopeless/angry at God, I had to make a decision. Would I bask in my misery and bow down to my situation or would I DECIDE? Decide to stand on faith or stand on negative thinking. So I made a decision!

“’God shall be my hope, my stay, my guide and lantern to my feet.’ When I say failure is not an option, it’s a prayer, an affirmation and an acknowledgment. God has brought my family and I this far, so much joy and so many blessings. This is just another opportunity for God to manifest in my life so that I can be an example of what faith with work can truly do. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with prayers and support. I Love and Appreciate you all!”

Jones thanked his fans, family, friends and everyone else who sent their thoughts and prayers. Open heart surgeries are serious, and hopefully, Jones will feel better.

A lot of changes in two seasons

He played for the Baltimore Ravens from 2018-19 after being released by the New England Patriots. Baltimore waived him on Nov. 12 before being signed by Denver. The Broncos placed Jones on the non-football injury list.

During his time in New England and Baltimore, Jones was used as a return man.
