Lawrence Taylor Reveals Giants’ Old Nickname For Belichick

Head coach Bill Belichick is unstoppable when it comes to winning games. He pays great attention to details and has huge desire for greatness. His brilliance led to the creation of phrases like “Patriot Way” and “Do Your Job.” However, before the coach was lauded for these traits, he was … mocked. Yes, you read that right. Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor, who Belichick coached for 10 decades during their game with the New York Giants, admitted he didn’t see The Hoodie becoming the legend he is today. Moreover, Taylor wasn’t really happy in the early 1980s when the Giants promoted Belichick to their defensive coordinator.

A story shared by Lawrence Taylor

“I don’t know how it happened, because when I came into the league Bill was assistant special teams coach. Assistant special teams. I mean, the next step after that is water boy,” Taylor said on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.” “He got better and better, he put the work in. Year 3 when Parcells became the head coach and they named Bill Belichick as the defensive coordinator, oh I was hot. I went into the office and I said, ‘No way. That’s not gonna happen.’ We used to call him ‘doom,’ because every play, if you don’t do it the perfect way he wants you to do it, it’s the end of the world. It’s the end of the world. So we used to call him ‘doom.’ When he came in as defensive coordinator I was like, ‘We can’t have this.’”

Here’s the irony. The nickname for the coach still applied even as he pivoted to his perch in Foxboro. Coach Belichick and TB12 dominate the NFL, and they have been doing that for two decades. NFL teams lose hopes every time they play the Patriots, and yes, New England is off to another win this season. They lost just three games, and hopefully, they won’t lose another one. Coach Belichick needs to adjust his game-planning for the remaining three games. New England has two home games and one road game. Will they win these games? You can bet they will. It’s a big season for the Pats!
