Report: Patriots’ Jason McCourty Undergoes Surgery

Jason McCourty is one of the few Patriots players who were injured this season. In a recent episode of his and Devin McCourty’s “Double Coverage” podcast, Jason talked about the surgery he had to fix his groin. This groin injury kept him on the sidelines for most of the second half of the regular season.

Jason started the Patriots’ first ten games and played just nine total snaps over the final seven games. He wasn’t’ active for five of these games, including the Wild-Card Game against the Tennessee Titans.

The 32-year-old finished the regular season with an interception and six passes defended. Three of these happened in the Patriots’ Week 1 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jason has one year remaining on his contract, and he is set to carry a $5.55 million salary-cap hit in 2020.

If they are seeing avenues to free up cap space, New England can save $3.8 million by cutting McCourty who has been a key player when healthy since joining the organization in 2019.

McCourty will hit free agency when the new league year starts off on March 18. He didn’t address his future plans in the podcast but said he has huge plans for the upcoming season.

“There’s a lot of unknowns,” said Karras, who started all but one game in the season instead of center David Andrews. “This is a business, and obviously, I’m just so grateful for the time I got here. I guess we’ll just have to see. Like a lot of guys on this team, it’s going to be a different spring.”

In the episode, Jason poked fun at Devin for wearing a recovery boot in the offseason. Jason said he wasn’t wearing one because he was recovering from his procedure.

“I would have mine on,” he said. “But right now I’m recovering from a little offseason surgery. I will not be putting my boots on. It will not coincide with my groin right now.”

The Patriots are off to great things this season, and they are ready to win the next Super Bowl. They missed the chance this time.
