Report: Patriots Listed As Team Of Interest For Chargers Tight End

The New England Patriots may finally find a replacement for their beloved Rob Gronkowski. They had a tough season with the 39-year-old Benjamin Watson at tight end. The could really sign a suitable tight end for the upcoming season. A lot of talented tight ends will hit the market in free agency, including Eric Ebron and Austin Hooper. Many agree that the 25-year-old Hunter Henry the best on this list. The Los Angeles Chargers tight end will become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. According to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, New England is an obvious team of interest for the starting tight end.

“Henry returned to full strength after a torn ACL cost him the 2018 season, catching 55 passes for 652 yards — both career-highs,” Seifert wrote. “The dynamic role of tight ends in today’s offenses suggests he will be highly sought-after if he reaches the market. The Patriots, in particular, seem like an obvious team of interest.”

Henry was a starting tight end in Los Angeles for the past four seasons. He played 41 games with 35 starts. His career stats include 136 receptions for 1,709 yards and 17 touchdowns

The 6-foot-5 tight end replaced Antonio Gates, and this accomplishment has been discussed by so many analysts.

Patriots tight ends combined for just 36 receptions for 418 yards and two touchdowns this season. The team had Watson, Ryan Izzo, and Matt LaCosse in the regular season. Replacing Gronkowski was quite a challenge, and even Josh McDaniels once said it would be impossible to replace the big Gronk.

Gronk played just 13 games in 2018 and had 47 receptions for 682 yards and three touchdowns. These numbers are much better than the numbers Patriots’ three tight ends combined for in 2018.

Let’s hope that the team will find a solution to this issue. They need someone as good as Gronk. Is that even possible? Well, they can find someone with a similar skillset as the retired tight end.

Being a team of interest is a big twist in the NFL. Let’s see what happens in the next couple of months. Who will ink a deal with the Pats?
