Julian Edelman Reacts To Terrifying News About NBA Legend Kobe Bryant

Legendary basketball star Kobe Bryant lost his life at 41. He spent 20 years with the Los Angeles Lakers, and the world will remember him as an incredible superstar. Bryant was killed when his helicopter crashed and burst into flames Sunday morning. The foggy weather conditions made everything worse. The chopper crashed in the hills above Calabasas. Many athletes delivered an emotional message following his death, including Patriots wideout Julian Edelman.

Bryant’s daughter, Gianna, 13, was also on board and died. At least five deaths are confirmed.

The legend’s death shocked Los Angeles and the sports world. According to sources, the helicopter took off from Orange County, where the Bryant family lived.

The chopper crashed shortly before 10 a.m. near Las Virgenes Road, south of Agoura Road as confirmed by a watch commander for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The legend is gone

Jerry Kocharian is one of the eyewitnesses. He was standing outside the Church in the Canyon enjoying his coffee when he heard a chopper unusually low struggling overhead.

“It [didn’t] sound right and it was real low. I saw it falling and spluttering. But it was hard to make out as It was so foggy,” Kocharian said. “There was a big fireball. No one could survive that.”

The helicopter was a Sikorsky S-76B and it was built in 1991. He departed John Wayne Airport at 9:06 a.m. Sunday, as noted in publicly available flight records. Bryant’s chopper passed over Boyle Heights, near Dodger Stadium, and went over Glendale during the flight.

The National Transportation Safety Board database does not provide information of any prior incidents or accidents for this type of chopper. Bryant’s aircraft is registered to the Fillmore-based Island Express Holding Corp., as confirmed by the California Secretary of State business database.

Words of praise for the legend

“We extend our sincerest condolences to all those affected by today’s Sikorsky S-76B accident in Calabasas, California,” the helicopter’s manufacturer, Sikorsky, tweeted. “We have been in contact with the NTSB and stand ready to provide assistance and support to the investigative authorities and our customer.”

“Kobe Bryant was a giant who inspired, amazed, and thrilled people everywhere with his incomparable skill on the court — and awed us with his intellect and humility as a father, husband, creative genius, and ambassador for the game he loved,” L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti said in a news statement Sunday afternoon. “He will live forever in the heart of Los Angeles, and will be remembered through the ages as one of our greatest heroes.”
