Joe Montana Gives Tom Brady Important Advice About Staying With Patriots

Tom Brady will make the most important decision in his professional career on March 18. The Patriots quarterback is set to become a free agent, and he has a few options to choose from. He can stay with the Patriots, sign with another team or retire. NFL legend Joe Montana has something to say about this.

Montana was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs after winning four Lombardi Trophies with the San Francisco 49ers in the 1980s. He has advice for  Brady, and he couldn’t be more honest. Montana sat for a conversation with Mike Silver from NFL Media.

“Don’t (leave) — if you don’t have to,” he said. “It’s a process to go through, and it takes time to get used to the team. I was fortunate because (former 49ers quarterbacks coach) Paul Hackett was (in Kansas City) running the offense. I was pretty familiar with probably three-quarters of the offense going in. And, if they let him have his own offense (with a new team), yeah, that makes it a little bit easier. But still, the transition of moving … I just can’t see how they would let him leave there, myself.”

Joe Montana was Tom Brady’s idol

Brady idolized Montana as a young Niners fan. Montana was 36 when he was sent to Kansas City. Brady will turn 43 in August and that’s the beginning of the 2020 NFL season. TB12 has spent his entire career with the New England Patriots and won six titles with the team and appeared in three other Super Bowls. That’s not something you underestimate.

“It’s not easy to go to another team and get accepted, no matter how much success you’ve had and how many years you’ve played,” Montana told Silver. “They still want to see you come in and be the same player and be that loyal to them as you were to the other team you just left. So, it’s not easy (for) guys looking at that change, especially at the quarterback position.”

The legend may be right about this one. Brady shoud consider staying in New England. That’s his home. It’s a new season.
