Report: Patriots Host Converted College Quarterback For Workout

The New England Patriots lost the game to the Miami Dolphins, and this forced them to play a wild-card game against the Tennessee Titans. They lost the match to the Titans, and the season was over for the defending champions. Head coach Bill Belichick said they are on to   2020, and he was pretty serious about it. The Patriots’ season may have ended two weeks ago, but they are already getting ready for the upcoming season. They hosted a quarterback.

On Wednesday, New England hosted cornerback Tre Roberson for a free agent workout as confirmed by a report from ESPN.com’s Mike Reiss.

The 27-year-old played quarterback at Indiana and Illinois State before going to defense ahead of the 2016 NFL Draft. Roberson went undrafted, and signed with the Minnesota Vikings. He spent most of the 2016 season on the Vikings’ practice squad. The team released him after the 2017 preseason.

Roberson wasn’t offer a deal in the NFL in 2017, so he entered the Canadian Football League. This gave him a deal with the Calgary Stampeders ahead of the 2018 CFL campaign. Roberson had three interceptions in 16 games and helped the Stampeders win the Grey Cup in 2018. He ranked second in the CFL with seven interceptions in the past season, including a pick-six. He returned a fumble 93 yards for a touchdown.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, last November that Roberson was “drawing interest from over 10 NFL teams” and “is expected to be headed back to (the) NFL in 2020.”

Calgary cut Roberson earlier last month and now he has a chance to sign a deal with an NFL team.

New England has always been interested in quarterbacks like him. Several players on the New England roster played QB in either college or high school. Wide receivers Julian Edelman, Jakobi Meyers and Mohamed Sanu and All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore are some of them.

Tom Brady is set to become a free agent on March 18, and the team has to think of an alternative for their star quarterback. He will have to go away at some point.
