The Reason For Kobe Bryant’s Helicopter Crash Revealed

Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and eight others lost their lives in a tragic helicopter accident. His oldest daughter Gianna was among the victims. Authorities have revealed the reasons for the terrible crash.

Bryant’s helicopter plunged into a steep hillside at 9:45 a.m. Sunday with an impact that threw debris over a massive area. The helicopter crash shocked the basketball world, and both fans and athletes mourned the unexpected loss of one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Bryant spent his entire career with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Fans wearing Bryant jerseys chanted his name and gathered outside the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, home of the Lakers and site of the Grammy Awards. The legend was honored at the event.

Bryant traveled with his daughter and he was one of the greatest basketball players and the face of the 16-time Lakers champion.

In the initial reports, we couldn’t tell much of the cause of the crash. However, the weather conditions forced the Los Angeles Police Department and the county sheriff’s department grounded the choppers.

The deadly helicopter crash

According to the Los Angeles County medical examiner, Dr. Jonathan Lucas, the rugged terrain complicated the procedure of recovering the remains. He also noted that it would take at least a couple of days to finish the procedure and the identifications.

The chopper left Santa Ana in Orange County, south of Los Angeles and circled east of Interstate 5, near Glendale. Air traffic controllers confirmed the poor visibility around Burbank to the north and Van Nuys to the northwest.

They held up the helicopter for other aircraft and cleared the Sikorsky S076 to proceed north along Interstate 5 through Burbank before going west to follow US Route 101, the Ventura Highway.

Right after 9:40 a.m., the helicopter turned toward the southeast and went up for 2000 feet or 609 meters. The chopper descended and crashed into the hillside at 1400 feet or 426 meters as confirmed by Flightradar24.

Bryant’s death shocked everyone, and numerous athletes shared their messages of support for his wife and kids. He was an incredible person and a devoted father of four.
