ESPN Insider Gives Expected Deadline For Tom Brady’s Free Agency Decision

Patriot quarterback Tom Brady has yet to make a decision on his pending free agency. Brady may become a free agent for the first time in his professional career. ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirms that the New England Patriots have yet to reach an agreement with the star quarterback.

“Not contractually — they haven’t had negotiations,” Schefter said. “They haven’t sat down to have the conversation they need to have — ‘Hey, what do you want to do?’ I am sure they are talking generally. Yeah, I am sure. They were at the Super Bowl on Sunday together.”

Will Tom Brady hit free agency on March 18?

He even has the deadline for this decision. According to him, the Patriots nation can expect a decision from both sides by March 1.

“Before we get to March 1, I think New England and Tom Brady will figure out if they’re going to stick together or move apart,” Schefter said on WEEI. “I think they have to do that. I think the Patriots need clarity about if they’re going to have their quarterback in place or whether they need to be making contingency plans to move on and to figure out what they’re going to do at the position. The position is just too important for them not to have that clarity early on. … Maybe it goes to March 7 or something. I’m not giving you a hard and fast deadline.”

Hopefully, Brady won’t wait for too long before he makes a decision. Remember what happened last offseason? Rob Gronkowski made his decision in late March. New England had hard time replacing him because all of the best tight ends had found a home.

The team struggled throughout the season. Benjamin Watson came out of his retirement and tried to fix some of the damage. Matt Izzo and Ryan LaCosse made similar efforts. Nothing helped, and the Patriots missed the chance to win a Super Bowl this season.

Let’s hope that the team won’t go through the same nightmare in 2020. According to Shiel Kapadia from The Athletic, New England will add Teddy Bridgewater to the roster. He is expected to replace TB12.
