Anthony Davis Says It’s ‘Scary To See How Much Better Lakers Can Get

Anthony Davis joined the Los Angeles Lakers at the right time. Last season, the Lakers struggled to win games. LeBron James sustained a terrible groin injury on Christmas Day and it marked the end of the season for the team. LeBron missed 17 straight games due to his injury, and his younger teammates struggled to score points. It was more than obvious that the Lakers needed another big player to improve their record. That’s when Davis arrived.

The Golden State Warriors lost the game to the Lakers. LeBron was sidelined for the game due to his injury. The Lakers didn’t need him to win this game. They led by just two points at the half. If they were the Warriors from last season, a two-point lead would definitely be worth celebrating. However, the Warriors played with their rookies this time. They are 12-47 at this point in the season. The Lakers are 45-12.

Anthony Davis has high expectations from the Lakers

After the win, Davis talked about the possibility to build off of their performance without LeBron and push it into the next few games.

We’ve got to get better with that. Usually when he’s playing, when he comes off the floor we kind of take a dip in all aspects of the game. The same way we played tonight without him, we’ve got to play like that when he’s playing, but when he’s not on the floor. It’s good for guys to get those reps, and I think when he comes back, we’ve got to make sure we keep the same pace, same intensity when he’s not on the floor.”

The Lakers will have to find a way to sustain their energy and productivity when LeBron is out. Davis has high expectations from the team.

“There’s still a lot of departments that we can get better at, and that’s a scary thing for teams, and a good thing for us that we’re not playing our best at all at times and we’re still able to get wins. It’s our job to go in and look at the bigger picture, and get prepared for something bigger than just one game.”
