LeBron James’ Camp Responds To Lawsuit From Youth Organization Over Slogan

Game Plan is a Maryland-based nonprofit that supports young athletes in their effort to succeed in life. According to them, Lakers superstar LeBron James stole the slogan “I Am More Than an Athlete.” They accuse Uninterrupted for using the slogan. However, LeBron and his media company responded to the accusations and the lawsuit.

Game Plan filed the lawsuit and provided details of the incident. According to them, LeBron came up the idea when he saw Game Plan staffers wearing shirts that said “I Am More Than an Athlete” at the 2017 game between the Washington Wizards and Cleveland Cavaliers.

“The attendance at the game gave Game Plan tremendous exposure, as it was able to gain attention from John Wall in front of his peers including the (arguably) most famous athlete in the world, as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, at the time, LeBron James,” the lawsuit states.

According to this lawsuit, the Lakers superstar decided to use the phrase to confront FOX News host Laura Ingraham. If by any chance you don’t remember, Ingraham told LeBron to “shut up and dribble.” King James took to Instagram to share a post that featured the phrase right after the unpleasant event.

LeBron James responds to the lawsuit

Game Plan claims they obtained the trademark to the phrase in 2018. They are asking for at least $33 million to recoup money King James and his media company have made through deals with Nike, ESPN and others. Uninterrupted responded to this lawsuit, claiming it’s “meritless.”

“The complaint filed by Game Plan today is meritless and contains numerous factual inaccuracies,” LeBron’s company said in a statement. “Uninterrupted owns prior rights in and to the ‘More Than An Athlete’ trademark.”

The story between LeBron and Ingraham was making headlines for quite some time. It was a huge story back then. There’s no evidence that the phrase was stolen. Let the courts decide what happens next.

LeBron isn’t really bothered with this lawsuit and he is more focused on the Los Angeles Lakers and their efforts to win a title this season. He is on a good way to make it happen.
