Report: Patriots Asked This QB About Becoming Tom Brady’s Replacement

The New England Patriots will have to find themselves a player that would become Tom Brady’s replacement at some point. Well, they may be forced to do that if the star quarterback decided to leave the team in free agency. Oregon State quarterback Jake Luton got the toughest question from the Patriots.

Luton is a sixth-year senior who threw for 2,715 yards and 28 touchdowns this past season. The Patriots put him in the spotlight with their TB12 question. They literally asked Luton how he would feel about replacing the GOAT.

This is a rather tricky question, and it added fuel to an existing fire. Luton addressed the topic and answered the question during an interview at the 2020 NFL combine Tuesday in Indianapolis.

Tom Brady’s replacement will face a serious challenge

For Luton, this is quite a challenge. Replacing the GOAT is almost impossible. Luton promised to stay consistent and prepare for every challenge on his way. He assured everyone that outside noise has no impact on him as he is trying to do his best. The young player also promised to be a great leader. The best part of his response was the fact that he just wants to do the best he can do. Filling someone’s shoes is none of his worries at the moment.

“I think that was a great question,” Luton said. “It was a fair question for them to ask. Those are big shoes to fill. But for me, I’m a pretty even-keeled guy. I kind of reiterated that. I said ‘I’m going to be consistent. I’m going to be prepared as best as I can be. I’ve never let any of the outside noise distract me, so I don’t think that would be an issue. I’d bring it every day and prove that I’m a leader, no matter if it’s a high or a low. Keep doing it every day, however that pans out, you know, I’m not going to worry about filling anyone’s shoes. Just doing the best that I can do.”

Let’s just say that this response surprised us. According to one of the coaches, Luton is a future NFL quarterback “that nobody is talking about.” Bleacher Report says Luton may be a Day 2 draftee. He’s got an interesting size and throwing ability.

Will Brady let the Patriots look for a replacement?

Brady will hit the open market on March 18, and he has yet to negotiate his potential contract with the Patriots. Head coach Bill Belichick may not be interested in giving him a two-year deal. If this happens, Brady can easily join the Tennessee Titans or the Las Vegas Raiders. What about the Los Angeles Chargers? The Chargers brass didn’t say much about the plans to sign Brady, but they didn’t dismiss the idea.
