Report: New ‘Dark Horse’ Emerges For Patriots’ Tom Brady

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady makes the best headlines these days. We got used to all the rumors about his offseason move. It’s funny how we get an update every single day. The latest includes a new dark horse and Tom Brady.

Brady will enter the open market on March 18. He can start hearing offers from teams on March 16.

The Dark Horse in the Tom Brady story

NBC Sports’ Tom Curran appeared on Mad Dog Radio and discussed Brady’s potential suitors.

“It’s either going to be New England or Tennessee with the 49ers closing hard on the outside. … What’s interesting about that is the Patriots sent Jimmy Garoppolo out there for such short collateral, that could (Bill) Belichick say ‘Hey, why don’t you just sign this guy when he becomes available for two years. I’ll take Jimmy back. He’ll get you the Super Bowl you probably could’ve had this year if you had Brady and we’ll start fresh.’ It would be interesting to me to find out whether or not that had happened because I think, I think that the Niners can release Jimmy Garoppolo outright and suffer no consequences.”

Garoppolo and his team lost Super Bowl LIV to the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-20. He once was Brady’s backup quarterback. The Patriots drafted him in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Belichick thought that Garoppolo could be Brady’s eventual successor.

With the Patriots, Garoppolo won two Super Bowls backing up TB12. He also got a chance to be a starter in 2016 while Brady received his a four-game suspension for Deflategate. Brady’s game developed really well, and Belichick traded Garoppolo to the 49ers in 2017. He got the No. 43 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft in the trade.

If Brady leaves the team, Belichick won’t have a No. 1 quarterback for the first time in his time with the team. Curran believes that the Patriots may get Garoppolo back.

“Yes. So would (Josh) McDaniels, I think. that would be the best-case scenario all the way around.”

Brady idolized the 49ers as a kid. Joe Montana was his favorite player and four-time Super Bowl champion.
