Bucs GM Jason Reveals Details Backwards ‘Recruitment’ Call With Tom Brady

Tampa Bay Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht and his organization wanted Tom Brady. They were ready to give him whatever he wants. Brady was set to hit the open market for the first time in his career. The Bucs did their best to sign him.

The Bucs general manager appeared on ESPN’s “Get Up!” program. He discussed the deal his organization signed with the former Patriots quarterback. Licht also provided details about his first phone call with Brady. This call helped him realize that Brady wants to leave the Patriots. In this conversation, Brady discussed all the ways he could use to help the Bucs win. He literally explained his role on the field. Licht felt as if Brady had already signed with the team.

“As soon as Wednesday rolled around and we were able to talk to Tom Brady, we had a great conversation,” Licht said. “Bruce (Arians) and I, we talked to him for over an hour and a half, and he made it clear in the conversation that he was very, very interested. It was almost like a recruitment on his part telling us why it would make sense for him to come to Tampa Bay. And the following day we signed him, but it was at the phone call that we realized, we felt like we had him.”

Patriots fans will have hard time getting used to the situation. Brady will put on a different uniform for the first time in his professional career. Wearing a Bucs uniform? Even the thought of it gives us chills. But, he will enjoy every bit of his two-year stint with the Bucs. The team gas a lot of talented offensive players. Brady needs that. He didn’t have too many offensive weapons in New England. He discussed that problem on so many occasions.

TB12 and Bill Belichick couldn’t reach an agreement. Brady was worried about the duration of his contract. The Patriots couldn’t give him more than a year. But, the star signal-caller has nothing but words of praise for his former head coach and team owner Robert Kraft. Tom Brady Sr. didn’t call it “a divorce.” He called it “a separation.”
