The New England Patriots will face one of the greatest challenges since 1999. The Patriots lost Tom Brady in free agency. TB12 signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he will stay there for two years. Brady moved on from the Patriots after two decades. He has nothing but words of praise for team owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick. Many believe that the Patriots won’t even get any near the postseason now that Brady is gone. Well, Devin McCourty delivered a message for every Patriots doubter out there.
We will all feel Brady’s departure. But, McCourty is confident in the Patriots’ quarterback situation ahead of the new season. He has faith in the Pats as a team. McCourty also welcomed doubters who keep trashing the team. He knows that many count out the Patriots in the wake of Brady’s departure.
“People are going to say that because Tom’s gone, the dynasty is over,” McCourty wrote in a letter published to The Players’ Tribune. “They’re already burying us, far as I can tell. And that’s fine. Let ’em. We’ve never listened to the noise, and we’re not about to start now. But the task is definitely taller this coming year than it has been in years past. There’s more work to do. And it’s not gonna be so easy this time around.”
Devin McCourty is ready for the Patriots challenge
This new challenge actually helped McCourty make a decision on his future in the NFL. He was about to test the market and check out some other options. However, he stayed with the Pats. New England was the only team to give him the chance to play with his twin brother Jason. McCourty entered the offseason with a plan to leave New England, but he soon realized that Foxboro was the only place he could be. The Patriots drafted him in 2010. He had great success with the team. McCourty will have a big role in the upcoming season, and Belichick trusts him. Let’s hope that Belichick will find someone to replace Brady. Jarrett Stidham is the first option, but he may also go after another option.
