Here’s What A Potential Patriots-Texans Trade Deal Could Look Like

The Houston Texans traded an All-Pro wideout in his prime for a 28-year-old running back. Is Bill O’Brien really interested in building a roster around Deshaun Watson? Well, Watson is making the best headlines these days. Many have linked him to the New England Patriots. The potential Patriots-Texans trade made us ask questions.

It was more than obvious that Deshaun didn’t approve the decision O’Brien made. He lost his favorite target. That’s why people started talking that he may join the New England Patriots in 2021. Is Watson really forcing his way out of Houston? His cryptic tweet added fuel to the fire. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick needs a starting quarterback now that TB12 is part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The potential Patriots-Texans trade is not likely

The Deshaun trade is not likely. He is under team control for at least two years. Of course, the Texans will have to exercise his fifth-year option for 2021. A franchise tag may keep Watson stuck on the roster even longer. That’s exactly what happens with Yannick Ngakoue. He keeps teasing the Jacksonville Jaguars, but, they don’t even think of trading him away.

Is O’Brien interested in getting rid of Watson? He did that with DeAndre Hopkins.

New England needs a quarterback. Brady shut down the door after two decades. The team won’t probably use some of the veteran options. Bill Belichick is lined to the Texans general manager. O’Brien has a history with the Patriots head coach. New England likes to sign former division rivals.

But, there’s a thing. Houston doesn’t work like a normal front office. Watson is a young and talented quarterback. You can’t just deal him away. What about the salary? One NFL source revealed that Watson may ask more than $100 million. He will need $200 million with $130 guaranteed. This means that the Pats will have to provide a salary between $40 and $50 million.

New England is tight against the salary cup in 2020. In 2021, the team is among the top 10 teams when it comes to cap space issues. They may get even better than that.

So, is Watson coming to Foxboro in 2021?
