Digging to the bottom of buckets full of rice is part of his workout. His favorite part of the workout regimen is actually the offseason workouts with quarterback Tom Brady. They run about 70 plays each session, and Brady offers Edelman some cool advice.

“When I was younger, I’d try to work so hard,” he said. “TB would tell me, ‘Hey Jules, it’s not always about working harder; it’s about working smarter. Go out with a purpose on what you need to do to get better.'”

Today, Edelman follows a super high-intensity 30-minute regimen created by the wide receiver’s trainer, Brian Weller. It involves tons of crunches, lunges, push-ups, planks, gorilla squats, mountain climbers, stair climbs and much more.

For Julian Edelman, monster legs require a monster diet

After his workout, Edelman enjoys a shake created by dietician Denise Barry-Alvey. It’s packed with protein and nutrients. He actually needs this shake when he is in California running “The Hill.” San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice made it popular. He used the Edgewood Park sport for his offseason workouts.

“I run up as fast as I can, driving my knees and taking small steps,” Edelman said. “Then I walk back down and repeat. By the end, my legs are wobbling and I’m close to puking.”

For breakfast, Edelman eats an egg-and-vegetable scramble topped with avocado and hot sauce with fruit on the side.
