Patriots Bill Belichick Likes Andy Dalton’s ‘Untapped Potential’

Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman reported that the Patriots head coach Bill Belichick liked Andy Dalton’s “untapped potential.”

“I, for one, am stunned at how much interest there seems to be in current Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton, who is expected to be traded as the team transitions to the Joe Burrow era,” Freeman wrote. “Several teams have mentioned to me that the Patriots’ reported interest in Dalton is even real. Bill Belichick, like others around the league, believes Dalton has untapped potential and that it’s been hard to decipher how truly good or bad he is because he’s played in Cincinnati.

“Who’d have thought that one of the hottest QB names out there this offseason would be one of the league’s most criticized?”

Patriots Bill Belichick may get Andy Dalton’s untapped potential in New England

Many analysts, including former Patriots offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, suggested that Dalton is a nice fit for the New England Patriots. Of course, this would happen if Tom Brady leaves the team. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote that Dalton is a good candidate for a Chicago Bears as they may try to sign an established veteran quarterback.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a Dalton trade would net Cincinnati a mid-round draft pick. This is similar to the return the Baltimore Ravens had from the Denver Broncos for quarterback Joe Flacco last season.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted that the Bears, Indianapolis Colts and the Patriots like Dalton. Last month, Rapoport reported that Cincinnati likes to work with Dalton on a trade. Dalton is well familiar with this plan.

Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin appeared on the RapSheet + Friends podcast. He said Dalton’s future with the Bengals is hanging up in the air. However, the team will try to make sure Dalton accepts any decision.

New England goes really strong this time. They will make a few important changes this season, and hopefully, things will work really well for the team. Keeping Tom Brady on the roster is a top priority for the team at this point in the offseason.
