Patriots Captain Matthew Slater Agrees To Contract Extension

The New England Patriots have great news for every member of the family. No, this information has nothing to do with the coronavirus outbreak. It’s time for a celebration. Star quarterback Tom Brady is the biggest name on the market. But, 18 other players are also set to become free agents this offseason. Special teams star and team captain Matthew Slater is one of them. The Pro Bowler agreed to sign a two-year contract extension. The information was confirmed by several sources, including Field Yates from ESPN.

According to Yates, the Patriots and Slater agreed to a two-year contract extension. His new deal is actually similar to Slater’s last deal which averaged $2.6 million per season.

Slater is one of the key players on the Patriots roster. He is definitely the top special teams player in the NFL.

Captain Matthew Slater is off to a win

Slater will enter his 13th season with the Patriots this year. He is a six-time All-Pro and three-time Super Bowl champ with incredible speed and athleticism. Slater has recorded just one NFL catch, but he became one of the Patriots’ best leaders. For many analysts, Slater is one of the pillars of Bill Belichick’s winning formula.

The 34-year-old Slater was a fifth-round draft pick out of UCLA in the 2008 NFL Draft. He received the 2017 Bart Starr Award. This honor is given to players who best exemplify leadership and service in the NFL and in their community.

The Patriots are one step closer towards forming a winning team. Slater stays in New England. Who is next on the list? Kyle Van Noy will also become a free agent. New England needs to find a tight end and receiver this offseason. The offense struggled in 2019, and these struggles destroyed the team’s chances of winning a Super Bowl.

Belichick will have to pack the offense with talents, including veterans. Otherwise, Brady will go somewhere else. Let’s see what happens by the end of the offseason. New England is all-in when it comes to winning games, and Slater will help them win in 2020. Will Brady stay around to see that? Or will he put on a different uniform?
