Report: Brian Hoyer Agrees To terms With Patriots After Colts Release

The New England Patriots won’t just sit there and do nothing. The team lost Tom Brady in free agency, and they had a few targets these days. Brian Hoyer is one of them. According to a recent report, the great Brian Hoyer is making his way to the Patriots’ organization.

Right after the Indianapolis Colts released him, the veteran reached an agreement with the New England Patriots. The information was confirmed by The Boston Globe’s Jim McBride. Hoyer agreed to a one-year deal as revealed by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Hoyer has played 4 1/2 seasons in New England. This time was split between two stints. The quarterback entered the league as an undrafted rookie in 2009. His first sting went all the way through the end of the 2012 preseason. Hoyer’s second stint with the Patriots started from the middle of the 2017 season through last August. The Patriots releasing him after rookie Jarrett Stidham became a backup quarterback for TB12.

Brian Hoyer is back wth the Patriots

Hoyer is familiar with Josh McDaniels and the way he runs the offense. This is his greatest asset. The offseason programs are postponed until further notice. This measure is supposed to restrict the spread of COVID-19. Getting used to the Patriots’ system before the beginning of the 2020 season would be really hard for a quarterback that has never played under Bill Belichick.

The 34-year-old veteran also has spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers and, and Indianapolis Colts. During his time with the team, Hoyer appeared in four games last season as Jacoby Brissett’s backup.

Brady signed a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hoyer will join Stidham and Cody Kessler on the Patriots’ quarterback depth chart. The Patriots will probably pull out a few moves at the position. However, this contract strongly suggests that Belichick wants Stidham to be ready for the beginning of the season. Drafting a quarterback to add to this squad also would make perfect sense.

New England also agreed to sign former New York Jets linebacker Brandon Copeland as revealed in McBride’s report.
