Report: NFC West Rival Out Of Race For Tom Brady

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will enter his free agency for the first time. The list of potential suitors was really long, but a NFC West rival gave up on the GOAT.

The San Francisco 49ers made Super Bowl LIV, and Jimmy Garoppolo did a good job. Brady was linked with the team, but Garoppolo has nothing to worry about at this point. According to NBC Sports’ Chris Simms, the 49ers are “out” on TB12. The team will keep Garoppolo as their starting quarterback for the upcoming season.

San Francisco is the second supposed TB12 suitor to move on without snatching the GOAT.

ESPN’s Jeff Darlington reported that Ryan Tannehill agreed to a four-year extension with the Tennessee Titans worth $118 million total and $91 million guaranteed.

Simms reported that the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the only potential suitors for TB12.

NBC Sports Boston’s Tom Curran talked to Sirius XM’s Mad Dog Radio earlier this month. According to him, the Titans and New England Patriots wanted to get Brady. He added that the 49ers were “closing hard” on Brady.

The NFC West rival is out

Analysts predicted at least one notable obstacle in the way. San Francisco couldn’t get Brady this offseason. The defending NFC champions only have $12.9 million in cap space for 2020, as confirmed by Over the Cap.

Garoppolo only has $4.2 million in dead cap if the organization decides to release or trade him. However, the 28-year-old quarterback has played really well under head coach Kyle Shanahan.

2019 was Garoppolo’s first full year as a starter in the league. The quarterback was able to throw for 3,978 yards and 29 touchdowns. He completed 69.1 percent of his attempts. Garoppolo also tied for the league lead with four fourth-quarter comebacks.

The 49ers finished the season with a 13-3 record and won the NFC West for the first time in seven years. San Francisco made Super Bowl LIV, but lost 31-20 to the Kansas City Chiefs.

So, where will Brady go this offseason? Tennessee and San Francisco are no longer an option. Will he re-sign with his team by Wednesday?
