Tom Brady And Chris Godwin Bucs Jersey Numbers Decided

Two weeks ago, quarterback Tom Brady left the New England Patriots for the first time in his lucrative football career. Brady has just received his Bucs jersey number.

Believe it or not, Brady won’t be changing jersey numbers.

The former Patriots quarterback will put on pewter and red. However, he’ll still wear jersey number 12. TB12 begins a new NFL chapter with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to this, one of Brady’s targets will sport a new number in September.

Wide receiver Chris Godwin has worn number 12 since becoming a Buccaneer in 2017. The wideout offered it to Brady. The Patriots quarterback was more than happy to accept it. Godwin is coming off his first Pro Bowl campaign. He will now wear jersey number 14.

Brady has a Bucs jersey number

Brady made the number 12 popular in Foxboro. He played two decades with the Patriots. In those twenty years, Brady won an NFL-record six Super Bowl championships. TB12 ranks as one of the most famous “Number 12s” in NFL history

Godwin had a phone convo with Brady right after the quarterback signed his deal. He later offered to give up number 12 in a Skype interview with Buccaneers Team Reporter Casey Phillips.

“Obviously, if he doesn’t want it or isn’t making a big deal about it, I’m definitely going to keep it,” said the wideout. “But we’ll see how that goes. I think just out of respect for what he’s done, what he’s accomplished, just kind of the career he’s built for himself…you’ve got to kind of lean into that respect, you know?”

Godwin has had this jersey number for three seasons. But, he is one of the most successful players in team history to wear it. In those three seasons, Godwin was able to catch 179 passes for 2,700 yards and 17 touchdowns. He had a 1,333-yard campaign this past fall. Most of the players who came before Godwin as number 12 were QBs. This includes Trent Dilfer and both McCown brothers, Luke and Josh. The most famous number 12 in Bucs history is Doug Williams. He is a member of the team’s Ring of Honor at Raymond James Stadium. Let’s just say that Brady arrived right on time to change history.
