Watch: Devin McCourty Officially Announces He’s Back With Patriots

The New England Patriots are getting things done. The organization is packing the roster with talents, and they have decided to keep both McCourty twins on the roster. Safety Devin McCourty used his YouTube channel to announce the big news to his Patriots fans. The safety is re-signing a contract with the team.

This is more than great. His brother, Jason, has already announced he had his 2020 option picked up by the team.

According to Ian Rapoport from NFL Media, Devin agreed to a two-year extension worth $23 million with $17 million guaranteed.

New England re-signed McCourty, a defensive captain and special teams captain Matthew Slater. Offensive captain and quarterback Tom Brady will become an unrestricted free agent Wednesday at 4 p.m. The legal tampering period in the NFL starts Monday at noon.

New England has a limited salary cap room after signing Slater and McCourty.

Devin McCourty is a nice fit for the Patriots

This deal keeps the 32-year-old with the team for his entire career. Devin originally joined the team back in 2010. He was the Patriots’ first-round selection out of Rutgers. The twin brother has been a mainstay at the safety spot. Devin has been one of the better players at his position for most of his professional career. In 2019, he notched five interceptions (his most since 2012) and seven pass breakups (his most since 2016).

McCourty also helped lead the defense. They allowed the fewest yards in the league, fewest points, and second-most total takeaways in 2019. Devin has won three Super Bowl. He was also named to two Pro Bowls and has been a three-time Second-Team All-Pro.

Not only is Devin a key player in the back of the Patriots’ secondary, but a pillar in the locker room. He is a nine-time captain with the team. According to experts, he will likely carry that title throughout his final days in Foxborough.

Head coach Bill Belichick is all-in when it comes to packing his roster with talent. The McCourty twins were great in 2019, and Belichick sure wants to see more of that. He is probably going after another great name this offseason. Will he try to keep Brady?
