Devin McCourty Reacts To Cam Newton-Patriots Rumors

Cam Newton and the New England Patriots may be the best match at the moment, but not everyone approves this combination. There are still people who believe that the 2015 NFL MVP can’t contribute to Bill Belichick’s game.

The Carolina Panthers released Newton last month, allowing him to hit the open market. Truth is, Newton is really talented, and most teams would gladly accept him. However, the Patriots may not be the home he is looking for.

New England has two quarterbacks at the moment. Second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham and journeyman Brian Hoyer will probably compete for the starting position in training camp. This doesn’t mean that coach Belichick won’t take a chance on a talented player. Newton was one of the best football players in the football world a few years ago.

Cam Newton to the Patriots?

What does Devin McCourty think of this? The Patriots safety believes that all the rumors are nothing but a bunch of “bologna.” Sort of.

“Guys come (into New England) and sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t,” McCourty said during Friday’s “First Things First” episode. “But to just predict guys’ personalities won’t work in New England, or is not a ‘Bill-type of guy,’ I don’t think that’s true. You have to see how things work out if a guy comes to our team. I think Cam Newton is a great player, a proven winner. So, to just say, ‘He wouldn’t work in New England,’ I don’t think that’s correct.”

The Patriots can easily take a chance on Newton. They may also go after Jameis Winston. He is a free agent and has pretty much anything NFL coaches need.

There’s a huge speculation about the Patriots’ plan for the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft. Most analysts tried to predict Belichick’s move. Will he try to get a quarterback? That wouldn’t come as a surprise to us.

New England has to address a few positions as they lost a few valuable players in free agency. Belichick has to think of the depth of his tight end chart. He also needs a receiver. Or two. This will be a rather long offseason for the best coach in the league.
