NFL Analyst Believes Patriots Are Best Fit For This QB Prospect

The New England Patriots may get their new quarterback from the 2020 NFL Draft. Tom Brady is no longer part of the organization, and head coach Bill Belichick has to pick a replacement for him. According to initial reports, the head coach and his staff like the game of Justin Herbert and Jordan Love. But, both Herbert and Love will probably be picked by the time New England makes its first pick at No. 23. An NFL analyst believes the Patriots should go after one particular QB prospect.

In his column for ESPN, Matt Bowen suggests that the Patriots should get Washinton’s Jacob Eason.

“I’m looking at a Patriots team here with three third-round picks as the best landing spot for Eason, given his physical traits and the play-action route tree in New England. The Pats brought in veteran Brian Hoyer, and though second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham has some talent and is familiar with Josh McDaniels’ offense, the Pats’ quarterback room needs more competition.

“With Tom Brady now in Tampa Bay, there is pressure on his successor, and drafting Eason adds a high-upside thrower to the organization. With Eason, the Patriots get a pocket thrower with the arm talent to rip the ball to all three levels of the field. And he fits in the play-action system there — power play-action out of both one- and two-back sets, driving the ball up the seams or attacking tight windows on deep crossers. That meshes with Eason’s college tape. He could develop as a quick-game thrower in McDaniels’ offense, though he needs to improve his consistency.”

Will the Patriots show interest in the QB prospect?

Eason is not consistent and he’s been criticized for his average pocket presence. This can easily lead to a big mistake in the field. The Patriots don’t allow mistakes. Head coach Belichick would never accept that. Ball security and fundamentals are really important for the Patriots. Eason will have to try really hard to earn his spot on the Patriots roster.

His former backup may be a better option for the Patriots. Jake Fromm has been touted as a big name on the market. Several reports have linked him to the Patriots.

Belichick can get the best of every NFL draft, and he will probably make a few great picks this time. He has several voids to take care of. Nineteen players were set to hit the open market some of them signed with different teams.
