Patriots Draft Kicker In Fifth Round To Replace Stephen Gostkowski

The New England Patriots have found a kicker in the fifth round. Head coach Bill Belichick and Co. are doing a really good job at the 2020 NFL Draft, and they have already made a few bold moves. Belichick is going after a few key players to complete his roster. This time he has found a replacement for Stephen Gostkowski.

New England selected kicker Justin Rohrwasser out of Marshall with the 159th overall pick in the draft.

The Patriots got a talented kicker in the fifth round

Rohrwasser is a New York native. He began his college career at the University of Rhode Island and was then transferred to Marshall. During his two seasons at URI, the kicker had 15 of his 20 field goal attempts (75 percent) and 39 of his 41 extra-point attempts (98 percent).

During his two seasons at Marshall, Rorhwasser had 33 of his 42 field goal attempts (78.6 percent) and 79 of his 82 extra-point attempts (96.3 percent).

Rohrwasser had both of his attempts from 50-plus yards this past season. This includes a career-long hit from 53 yards.

Rohrwasser attended Catholic Central High School. During that time, he played soccer and ran track. The Patriots’ newly acquired player kicked for two seasons, and made 8 of his 10 field goal attempts. He didn’t miss an extra point. Rohrwasser saw snaps at receiver, quarterback, and linebacker too.

According to analysts, Rohrwasser is set to replace Gostkowski. The veteran kicker was released earlier this offseason. Gostkowski spent 14 seasons with the Patriots and won three Super Bowls.

New England will go after a few talented names this offseason. They need to address a few issues with the first one being the quarterback position. Belichick lost several valuable players in free agency, including Tom Brady. He will have to recreate the entire roster and build it around a new signal-caller.

The organization has drafted a few players, and they pulled out a few trade moves to draft the players they need. The team will enter the third round of the draft, and they are ready to add more players. Nick Caserio is confident about the next few rounds. New England needs talented players.
