Patriots’ Latest Scandal Could Mess Up Plans For NFL Draft 2020

The New England Patriots will take part in the virtual NFL draft. They have 12 picks to choose from, and the draft is set to begin next week. Will the Patriots’ latest scandal affect their draft chances?

The Patriots were caught in a huge scandal after their crew team was taping the Bengals sideline in Cleveland. This gave the team too many problems, and they have already been involved in something like this. The Patriots had to deal with Spygate and Deflategate. This means that the NFL may give the team a huge fine. NFL officials may even take away picks from the draft once the Patriots’ scandal is resolved.

According to league spokesman Brian McCarthy, “the matter remains under review.”

“There was no intention of using the footage for any other purpose,” the Patriots said in a statement last December. “We understand and acknowledge that our video crew, which included independent contractors who shot the video, unknowingly violated a league policy by filming the field and sideline from the press box.”

The Patriots’ scandal may lead to major losses

The Boston Globe released a report in February. According to it, “an NFL security was close to wrapping up the investigation and sending its report to commissioner Roger Goodell.” The league hasn’t made this decision public, and they may do that now.

New England has the 23rd pick in the first round. They traded their second-round pick to Atlanta last season to get wide receiver Mohamed Sanu. The organization may also lose some of the four compensatory picks the league gave them for losing free agents. Defensive lineman Trey Flowers and wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson are part of the group. Those picks may go in the third and fifth rounds.

New England is in a rather unfortunate situation. They may face even more problems. Tom Brady is no longer on the roster, and this gives the team additional problems. Hopefully, they’d get through this without any major losses.

Brady is already getting used to the new team. He signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They will probably give him the offensive weapons he needs to win games. Brady won’t be part of the Patriots’ problems in 2020.
