Patriots Releasing Cody Kessler, Back To Two QBs On Roster

The New England Patriots may have a problem with their quarterback position. First, it was Tom Brady. The greatest of all time left the Patriots on the first day of free agency. It was more than obvious that Brady would go somewhere else. There were no reports on his situation with the Patriots, so fans started talking about Brady’s move to another team. That’s exactly what happened. Brady signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now the Patriots cut ties with Cody Kessler.

The information was confirmed by several sources, including NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. Kessler was part of the team for most of the 2019 season. He was a third-stringer right behind TB12 and Jarrett Stidham.

Brady’s departure triggered an avalanche of reactions. New England decided to re-sign Brian Hoyer. The team has just two quarterbacks on the roster at this point of the offseason.

Cody Kessler is out

There’s a chance for the Patriots to sign a quarterback in free agency. They may also trade for a veteran or pick a passer in the 2020 NFL Draft. When it comes to targeting a veteran, Jameis Winston and Cam Newton are the best options for the team. Cincinnati has placed quarterback Andy Dalton on the trade block. Will head coach Bill Belichick show interest in Dalton?

There are a few quarterback options at the moment. Belichick can draft another brilliant player and use him instead of Brady. The best quarterback prospects are Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, Jordan Love, Jacob Eason, Jake Fromm and Jalen Hurts. The head coach may also could snatch a developmental quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft. Anthony Gordon, Jake Luton and Nate Stanley belong to this group.

This means that Belichick will be more than busy in the next few weeks. The NFL doesn’t allow coaches to meet players due to the coronavirus outbreak. But, he can always FaceTime a player or just call him. Belichick is not really a fan of technology. He is the greatest of all coaches, and we believe he has a backup plan for the upcoming season. Brady is gone, so it’s time for a change.
