Patriots’ Stephon Gilmore Backs Amari Cooper After Rex Ryan Criticism

The NFL is shut down, and there won’t be any major event in the near future due to the coronavirus outbreak. NFL players are nowhere to be seen, but talk heads are here to make our day. Sort of. Former Jets and Bills coach Rex Ryan made some ugly comments about Cowboys receiver Amari Cooper. Patriots veteran Stephon Gilmore stepped in defense of Cooper.

During Friday’s episode of Get Up, Ryan said he “wouldn’t have paid this guy.” According to him, Cooper does the biggest disappearing act in the NFL. He explained that Cooper doesn’t show up on the road. For him, Cooper disappears when his team confronts a good competition. Ryan is convinced that Coopers doesn’t like football and stops routes. The worst part? Ryan said Cooper was “a turd.”

For those of you who don’t know it, “turd” is used to describe players’ character. According to this, it describes a player who consistently does things he shouldn’t and gets fined. Cooper hasn’t done anything to have this word attached to his name.

Ryan apologized for the personal attack, but it didn’t sit well with the Patriots cornerback. Gilmore shared his opinion about the criticism, and hopefully, Ryan won’t make the same mistake again.

“Come on Rex he (Cooper) one of the toughest receivers in the league to cover. His release game is probably top 2,” the cornerback tweeted Friday.

Gilmore has already praised Cooper for his talent. He did that last season before the Cowboys’ arrival at Gillette Stadium in November.

During this game, Gilmore showed everyone that he deserves the Defensive Player of the Year award. He shut down Cooper and didn’t allow a catch on two targets.

It was great to see Gilmore stand by one of his rivals in these hard times. Ryan didn’t think twice before making his comments. Gilmore and many others didn’t like it at all. Hopefully, this will be enough for the former coach to pick his words wisely.

It looks like talk heads have too much free time so they come up with ugly comments just to make people laugh.
