Report: New England Patriots Are Going To Take A QB With A Premium Pick

The New England Patriots got Tom Brady with the 199th pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. This was the best decision they have ever made. Brady helped the team win six Super Bowls and make a few other appearances. The quarterback is gone now, and the Patriots hope to find his successor in the 2020 NFL Draft. New England has the 23rd overall pick and they won’t get Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert and Jordan Love. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, head coach Bill Belichick and his Patriots will land an elite QB prospect pick.

“The Patriots are going to take a quarterback, probably with a premium pick,” Rapoport said on “The Rich Eisen Show.” “I would just imagine it’s not at the pick they currently have.”

New England can land Love by sending away some of their picks. They may also trade back for many picks and replicate their success in snatching Jimmy Garoppolo in the second round of the 2014 NFl Draft. Jacon Eason maybe?

Maybe Belichick will trust Jarrett Stidham. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. However, the second-year quarterback threw four passes as Brady’s backup last season.

The Patriots and their QB options

“My understanding is they very much like Stidham. They think his potential is great,” Rapoport said. “There’s a lot of positivity and a lot to like, but they don’t actually know. He’s never done it. … I don’t think they’re going into the draft saying, ‘We got Stidham. We are good.”

Rapoport believes that the Patriots will use Hoyer as starter in September. Hoyer joined the organization for his third stint last month.

“But that’s something that’ll be ever-evolving as we get into next season,” Rapoport added.

The Patriots are in the middle of a rather challenging offseason. Head coach Belichick seems to be pretty positive about the team’s upcoming season. Belichick has the best winning formula in his notebook. He probably has a plan for the upcoming season. Will he use Stidham? Maybe he will go with Hoyer or another talented quarterback.

Brady signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has already put on his Bucs T-shirt. The Patriots nation can’t really get over the loss. However, Brady’s greatest fans wish him the best. Brady helped the Patriots reach the top of the NFL, and he earned the right to make whatever decision pops in his mind. The Patriots will miss him though.
