Report: New England Signed Linebacker To Massive Undrafted Free-Agent Contract

The New England Patriots have great expectations from Arkansas linebacker De’Jon “Scoota” Harris as they offered him an undrafted free-agent contract.

The team offered Harris a three-year deal along with a $25,000 signing bonus and $150,000 total in guarantees as confirmed by a source. In addition to this, the Patriots offered undrafted Auburn wide receiver Will Hastings a three-year deal with a $7,500 signing bonus and $57,500 total guaranteed. Undrafted Washington cornerback Myles Bryant also received a three-year contract with a $5,000 signing bonus and $50,000 total guaranteed money.

The Patriots are pretty confident about their roster. They added 2019 seventh-round pick Ken Webster with $74,576 as part of his rookie deal. As you may have noticed Harris received twice as much money guaranteed as a 2019 draft pick. Being undrafted free agent is sometimes great, right?

New England adds undrafted linebacker through an undrafted free-agent contract

Head coach Bill Belichick and Co offered tight end Andrew Beck and linebacker Harvey Langi undrafted deals with $115,000 in guarantees.

Harris measured at 6-feet, 234 pounds. His size didn’t stop him to run a 4.69-second 40-yard dash with a 7.06-second 3-cone drill, 4.32-second short shuttle, 33.5-inch vertical leap and 9-feet, 3-inch broad jump. Harris saw over 100 tackles in each of his last three years with the Razorbacks. He stacked 26 total tackles for loss during his college career to go along with 7.5 sacks, nine pass breakups, three fumble recoveries and four forced fumbles. Some analysts compare Harris to Elandon Roberts in terms of his size.

Hastings has already played with second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham at Auburn. He had an amazing chemistry with the quarterback in 2017. However, an ACL tear kept him out of the field for some time. He sustained the injury before the 2018 season. Hastings returned in 2019 but his production wasn’t as impressive as it used to be. He had a 4.03-second short shuttle and 6.55-second 3-cone drill at his pro day. Hastings ran a 4.5-second 40-yard dash at 5-foot-10, 175 pounds.

Harris measured at 5-foot-8, 183 pounds which makes him the perfect slot cornerback. He ran a 4.02-second short shuttle, 6.81-second 3-cone and 4.62-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The Patriots are pretty positive about their picks so far. The team will enter the new season with a talented roster.
