Report: Newton Interested In Signing With Patriots

The Carolina Panthers released Cam Newton right on time. The New England Patriots need a quarterback. See the connection? Tom Brady cut ties with the Patriots. He signed a new deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This left the Patriots empty-handed. Head coach Bill Belichick will have to think really fast. He can either go with second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham or pick someone during the 2020 NFL Draft. Oh, yes, Belichick can also trade for a player or sign a free agent. Is Newton making his way to New England? This move makes so much sense for everyone, including the Brady-less Belichick.

According to Jeremy Fowler from ESPN, Newton is interested in inking a deal with Belichick and Co. New England is one of the very few options Newton has at the moment. Most NFL teams have a quarterback. If Belichick is even remotely interested in getting Newton, he has to face a big challenge. The cap space. New England has something under $1 million as confirmed by Over The Cap.

Newton to the Patriots?

The Patriots nation really likes the idea of seeing Newton in Foxboro. This would help the team stay on the list of contenders. New England has to get the former MVP this offseason. Some fans have already imagined the team’s power. Newton is an excellent option for the Patriots.

The McCourty twins, Stephen Gilmore and other Patriots players are confident about the team’s upcoming season. But signing Newton would give the Pats extra stability. They need that at the moment. McCourty likes Stidham. He is pretty positive about his leading role. But, many believe that coach Belichick isn’t ready to give Stidham that much power mostly because he doesn’t have the experience. Brady spent two decades with the team. He was the pillar of the organization. Stidham may be talented, but can’t fill up the void Brady left behind.

This will be a messy offseason. The Patriots have to get ready for whatever challenge comes their way. Newton makes perfect sense for the Patriots. We will just wait to see what happens in the next few weeks.
