Report: NFL Legend Dead At 73 From Coronavirus

Legendary NFL kicker Tom Dempsey died after suffering serious complications from the coronavirus. The legend died at 73 on Saturday.

Dempsey was born without any toes on his right foot. He didn’t have fingers on his right hand, too. But, this didn’t stop him from becoming a legend. Dempsey excelled as a kicker and used specially-designed shoes to do what he loved the most.

When it comes to legendary kick, it happened in 1970.  Dempsey was a kicker for the New Orleans Saints. The Saints played the Detroit Lions. Dempsey blew the field goal record by 7 yards, propelling it 63 yards. This brilliant record has since been matched by 5 NFL kickers. Denver Bronco kicker Matt Pratter broke the record in 2013 with his impressive field goal from 64 yards.

“The New Orleans Saints family is deeply saddened and heartbroken at this most difficult time,” the Saints said in a statement. “Tom’s life spoke directly to the power of the human spirit and exemplified his resolute determination to not allow setbacks to impede following his dreams and aspirations.” He exemplified the same fight and fortitude in recent years as he battled valiantly against illnesses but never wavered and kept his trademark sense of humor.”

The NFL struggles with the coronavirus

Dempsey played for the Eagles, Rams, Oilers and Bills. His 11-year career was really impressive.

Dempsey was living in a New Orleans retirement home where 15 other lost their lives after suffering complications from the virus. Louisiana has more than 12,400 confirmed cases. New Orleans confimed the death of 153 people so far.

The legendary kicker grew up in CA and played his football at Palomar College in SoCal. He broke ties with the Saints and then became an oilfield salesman. Dempsey was also a high school football coach and a car dealership manager.

He was diagnosed with dementia, and is survived by his wife and three kids. We are sending our thoughts and prayers to the family.

The coronavirus has taken thousands of lives in our country. Authorities struggle to find a way to stop the spread of the virus. Hopefully, they will be able to do that in the near future.
