Report: Patriots Could Still Trade Draft Pick For Veteran TE, Receiver

The New England Patriots like playing around the NFL Draft, and head coach Bill Belichick has made the right decision about each trade move for a receiver. The Patriots have made 82 trade in late April and early May since Belichick took the head coaching position in 2000. This information was confirmed by Pro Football Reference. Most of these trades have been draft pick-for-draft pick changes. New England has traded for six veterans in April.

2018: Third-round pick to Oakland Raiders for LT Trent Brown and a fifth-round pick

2018: Fifth-round pick Kansas City Chiefs for TE James O’Shaughnessy and a sixth-round pick

2013: Seventh-round pick Tampa Bay Buccaneers for RB LeGarrette Blount

2009: 2010 fifth-round pick to Buccaneers for TE Alex Smith

2007:  Fourth-round pick to Raiders for WR Randy Moss

2004: Second-round pick Cincinnati Bengals for RB Corey Dillon

The Patriots may trade for a receiver

The Patriots didn’t sign any players through a trade in March. They may add another player in the 2020 NFL Draft.

New England has just $1,101,775 in cap space as confirmed by PatsCap’s Miguel Benzan. The team can free up more cap space. One of the expected moves involves extending or trading left guard Joe Thuney. He is taking up $14,781,000 on franchise tag.

The Patriots may go after several players, and Corey Davis (cap hit: $4,017,921) from the Tennessee Titans may be on this list. The Titans weren’t really happy with their first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Wideout Mike Williams (cap hit: $3,248,190) from the Los Angeles Chargers is also an option. He is a great player, and Belichick may take that into consideration.

John Ross from the Cincinnati Bengals (cap hit: $2,798,982) has yet to prove everyone that he deserves a spot on the roster.

O.J. Howard ($1,977,936) from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is a great fit for the Patriot. But, Tom Brady would need him, too.

Tight end Evan England from the New York Giant comes with a cap hit of $1,926,621. New England would love him and his skill set. The Giants have enough depth on their tight end chart.

David Njoku from the Cleveland Browns may leave the team after they signed Austin Hooper. Will Kevin Stefanski use him in 2020?

Adam Shaheen and Odell Beckham Jr. may have attracted Belichick’s attention, t.
