Report: Patriots Held Video Conference With Unheralded QB Prospect

The New England Patriots may look confident about their quarterback situation. They have Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer on the roster. Tom Brady left the Patriots to sign a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Many analysts believe that the Patriots are happy with Stidham at the moment as he has shown great performance during practice. However, latest reports suggest that the Patriots have contacted a quarterback prospect.

The Patriots had a video conference call with Florida International quarterback James Morgan. The information was confirmed by ESPN’s Mike Reiss Sunday morning. New England is among several NFL teams who have “closely vetted” the quarterback in the lead-up to the 2020 NFL Draft.

“With only 2019 fourth-round pick Jarrett Stidham and veteran Brian Hoyer on the depth chart, the Patriots almost certainly will add a rookie quarterback. The question is when.

“They will cast a wide net, as usual. One example: League sources say Florida International quarterback James Morgan had a videoconference meeting with the team. Morgan, who grew up in Green Bay and naturally modeled his game after Pro Football Hall of Fame QB Brett Favre, is an intriguing prospect who scouts say performed well in the East-West Shrine Game.”

The Patriots are going after a talented prospect

Morgan won’t be drafted before Day 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft. Todd McShay ranked him among top 10 quarterback prospect rankings. He is also considered an average athlete. Did this remind you on someone?

The Patriots have shown great interest in Morgan. There has to be something they find interesting. New England may be in a desperate need of a signal-caller at this point. They may go after a talented draft pick or even a free agent. Let’s see what happens in the next few months. The NFL has frozen every event so far due to the coronavirus outbreak.

New England lost Brady in free agency, and no player will be able to fill the void he left behind. Brady helped the Pats win six Super Bowls. Now he will be winning Super Bowls with the Bucs.

This will be a long offseason for every NFL team. Everyone will have to try hard to get the best players.
