Report: Patriots Interested In Bengals QB After His Release

The New England Patriots lost Tom Brady in free agency. TB12 left the Patriots after two decades and signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Many thought that the Patriots would try to select a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft. This didn’t happen and Bill Belichick said he was happy with the current quarterbacks on his roster. New England entered the draft with second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham and journeyman Brian Hoyer. But, the head coach made a move after the NFL Draft. Now he may make another move. The Cincinnati Bengals have released Andy Dalton. Will the Patriots sign the former Bengals quarterback as a replacement for Brady?

Cincinnati cut the veteran quarterback on Thursday morning. He is another quarterback on the free market. New England has been connected with pretty much every quarterback on the market.

Will the Patriots get the Bengals quarterback?

The Bengals tried to trade Dalton this offseason as they wanted to draft LSU player Joe Burrow. Cam Newton is the other big name on the free agency market. New England was connected with Newton, but it turns out that the Patriots won’t even need him.

The 32-year-old has been the steady hand of the Bengals for the past ten years. He started at least 11 games every season since 2011. The former second-round pick was able to throw for 31,594 yards in his pro career with 204 touchdowns compared to 118 interceptions.

According to Tyler Dragon, the Patriots are among the teams interested in getting Dalton. Dragon is a Bengals reporter for the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Dragon also reported that Dalton may end up playing with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Maybe this report is based on an unstable source. Dragon doesn’t have the same sources as Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport.

But, the Patriots were interested in getting Dalton, so they may go after him this time.

New England will need to think twice before making a move. Dalton is a talented player but he comes with great costs. Will the Patriots spend a lot of money for the veteran? New England doesn’t have too much money to spend at the moment.
