Ex-Patriots LB Reveals Biggest Takeaway From Playing In New England

Playing under Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has a different meaning for every player. The “do your job” mantra doesn’t work well for all the players out there. Some players go an extra mile and sacrifice their “individual accolades to support the organization. There are also players who can’t adjust to this type of discipline. Rosevelt Colvin has something to say about this. He is a Patriots player who had the most brilliant takeaway from his time in New England.

Colvin was part of the organization for six seasons. His experience with coach Belichick was really positive. Belichick coached him from 2003 to 2008, and Colvin still uses some of the principles he learned during his time with the Patriots.

“The Super Bowl rings are everything for sports and careers, so I’m very fortunate for that,” Colvin said in an interview with The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain. “It was beneficial in that aspect. The flip side of it, what I use more of to this day: Forget football and being able to play alongside Hall of Famers. The biggest thing I learned was how to manage life.”

Patriots players get big takeaway

Colvin won two Super Bowls with the Patriots. He has four UPS stores in Indianapolis. His wife, Tiffany, has two bakeries. He uses the lessons he learned in New England to run his business.

“The people who work for me and my wife say it all the time, they say, ‘I’ve never worked for anybody who has cared as much as you do and I’ve never enjoyed being employed by someone,’ ” Colvin said. “Relationships are huge. How you treat people is really big. That’s my biggest takeaway from New England — how to manage situations, egos and everyday operations.”

Colvin spent the first four seasons of his career with the Chicago Bears. He earned a lot and played really well. During his time with the Pats, he won two rings and some valuable lessons. One can’t underestimate that.

Head coach Bill Belichick has an excellent regimen, and it works really well for the players who are willing to win games. Not everyone can go through his system. Some players give up after a few months. Some players are cut by the coach.
