Jay Williams Explains What Makes Lakers’ LeBron James Greatest Ever

The GOAT debate has been the hottest topic these days. ESPN’s documentary, “The Last Dance” made NBA fans talk about it. Who is the greatest of all time? Is LeBron James better than anyone else? Is Michael Jordan the GOAT? If you ask Jay Williams, he will give you a precise answer.

In Sunday’s episode of the episodes, directors focused on Jordan’s decision not to support North Carolina Democrat Harvey Gantt in the Senate race in 1990. For many analysts, this killed Jordan’s change to stand up for his people.

According to the ESPN NBA analyst, LeBron is better than Jordan because of his “social bravery.” Charles Barkley doesn’t even have LeBron in his Top 5.

“The lack of willingness for (Jordan) to speak out allowed a next generation to see those things and have more willingness to speak out about those things,” Williams said. “That brings me to this ultimate conversation and this is personally how I feel. This is subjective. When we consider the greatest of all-time, this is why I think LeBron James is the greatest of all-time. I think that the lack of willingness of Michael Jordan to speak out brings me to the ultimate conclusion that LeBron James, putting his career in jeopardy to speak out on things he feels is personally relevant to him and where we are … ultimately, you feel like he’s on the path.

“I like the fact LeBron James stands up and speaks out on the injustices that are happening in the world. When we talk about the greatest of all-time, I think about Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown and LeBron James. Did Michael Jordan have the greatest skill set we’ve ever seen? Yes. And championships? Yes. But ultimately when I talk about the greatest of all-time, are transcending your sport? Are you standing for something bigger than yourself, bigger than yourself and things happening in our world? LeBron James is the greatest of all-time in that regard. He is.”

Jay Williams made a bold claim

In Sunday’s docuseries, Jordan never wanted to become a politician or have anything to do with the world of politics.

In the same episode, former President Barack Obama said Jordan’s reaction surprised him.

“I’ll be honest, when it was reported that Michael said ‘Republicans buy sneakers too,’ for somebody who was at that time preparing for a career in civil rights law and public life, and knowing what Jesse Helms stood for, you would have wanted to see Michael push harder on that,” Obama said. “On the other hand, he was still trying to figure out, ‘How am I managing this image that has been created around me, and how do I live up to it?'”
