Lakers Coach Reveals Similarities Between LeBron James And Kobe Bryant

Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy believes that LeBron James and Kobe Bryant are more similar than you can think. Handy worked with both players. He was a development coach for the team in the years between 2011 and 2013. He joined the Cleveland Cavaliers as an assistant coach from 2013-2018.

“Absolutely, those guys… people are always having the conversation about the GOAT… they are trying to put those guys against each other on daily basis,” Handy said on Battle for LA Podcast – ClutchPoints podcast. “But what people don’t understand all three of those guys [Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James] and ant other great players their work ethics are insane, insane to the point to where people really don’t understand how much work they put on the court and off the court in taking care of their bodies.

“And there are a lot of common denominators between Kobe and LeBron in the time that I’ve spent with them. A lot of denominators in how they study the game their basketball IQ, how they study their opponents, how they study themselves. They’re in a different class because for them they’re really pushing themselves to try to perfect the game, they’re pushing themselves to be as great as they can be everyday. Having had the chance to work with both of those guys there’s so many similarities in how they approach the game and how they work.”

Handy liked both LeBron and Kobe

Handy was also impressed with LeBron’s upper gear for the NBA playoffs. They worked together in Cleveland, and Handy saw LeBron step up his game. This particular ability has helped King James make nine NBA Finals.

Handy is on a good way to win a title with the Los Angeles Lakers. He won one title as an assistant coach for the Cavaliers in 2016 and another one with the Toronto Raptors in 2019.

The NBA regular season is suspended and players have yet to return to the floor. The league is taking into consideration a few great options, and the season may resume in the near future. Of course, fans won’t be able to attend games. Pretty much every player is fine with this possibility because they really want to return to the floor. The Lakers support this plan because they sit on top of the conference and they have a really big chance to win this championship.
