Latest On New England Patriots’ Interest In Cam Newton

The New England Patriots didn’t show much interest in signing former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. Will they change their opinion in the near future?

Mike Giardi from NFL Media reported that nothing has changed in Foxboro. In other words, the patriots have no intention of signing Newton at the moment. If you liked the idea of seeing Newton put on a Patriots uniform, you better forget about it.

But, does this mean they may consider signing him later this year? The Patriots may give this a second thought. They may like the idea of putting Newton on the field. The team can’t really do something about Newton at the moment. This offseason is rather challenging for the team, and they have several major obstacles to overcome. The salary cap is one of these.

Cam Newton didn’t meet teams

The coronavirus pandemic has frozen pretty much every portion of the league. Teams were seeing players on camera, and there was no real meeting. Virtual meetings was the only thing NFL teams could afford. Many free agents didn’t have their physicals with the team. These players couldn’t even visit a team in person.

Newton is coming off a season-ending foot injury. He didn’t get a chance to meet team execs. This may chance after the league reopens team facilities. On May 19, teams will be allowed to reopen team facilities. Will this change Newton’s future in the league?

The Patriots lost Tom Brady this offseason, but everything they did showed that the team is actually fine with having Jarrett Stidham on the starting position. Although the Patriots have been linked to Newton since his departure from the Panthers, Belichick hasn’t done anything to confirm the rumors.

This offseason, the Patriots haven’t signed any of the notable names on the open market. They didn’t even draft a quarterback. Does this mean they are ready to go with the second-year quarterback in September?

If Newton remains healthy, he may easily become a target for the Patriots. The team has nothing but great respect for the NFL 2015 MVP. Let’s see what happens in the next few weeks. Or months.
