New England Patriots Sign Third Round Draft Pick TE

The New England Patriots signed their third-round draft pick TE Dalton Keene. The team has yet to reveal the details of the contract.

The 21-year-old was selected by head coach Bill Belichick in the third-round of the 2020 NFL Draft with the 101st overall selection out of Virginia Tech. He measures at 6-foot-4, 251 pounds and saw action in 39 games. During his three years in college, Keene had 59 receptions for 748 yards and eight touchdowns. In 2019, the tight end started all 13 games and was able to catch 21 passes for 240 yards and five touchdowns. This is actually a career-high for him.

Bringing Keene from Virginia Tech into the roster leaves second-round pick Kyle Dugger as the only unsigned member of the Patriots’ draft class. Dugger is the Patriots’ highest selection in the 2020 draft.

Dugger won’t be able to sign until the team makes a salary-cap related move. @PatsCap monitors Patriots’ salary cap. According to their report, the Patriots have $640,545 in cap space. Dugger’s contract with the team would cost $904,891.

The Patriots sign a TE for the win

The Patriots are almost done with their roster. They selected 10 players in the NFL draft and signed 15 undrafted free agents. The Patriots are entering a rather challenging season and they have to make a really bold decision regarding their quarterback. Tom Brady is a starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers now. This means that the Patriots will use second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham as starter in September. He may have to compete with journeyman veteran Brian Hoyer for that position.

The Patriots struggled to replace Rob Gronkowski. He was the star tight end, but his decision to retire left the team with a big void to fill. However, Gronk changed his mind and now he is playing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It turns out that all those rumors about Brady getting him out of retirement were actually true. Gronk and Brady will help the Bucs boost their reputation. The Patriots lost several valuable players, but coach B is positive about the upcoming season. The same applies to every player on the current Patriots roster.
