Patriots Sign Second-Round Pick Linebacker To Four-Year Deal

The New England Patriots’ front seven will look really different in September. Head coach Bill Belichick and Nick Caserio selected a few talented players at the 2020 NFL Draft. New England lost a lot of key players this offseason. Belichick had a few big voids to fill, and his picks were really impressive. The Patriots needed a linebacker, and they got two. Josh Uche and Anfernee Jennings filled two empty spots on the roster, and New England has made an additional move. They are signing Uche.

Jamie Collins, Kyle Van Noy and Elandon Roberts left the team in free agency. The Patriots’ roster had a few big holes. New England had to do something about the linebacker/EDGE area, and Uche is the best fit for that area. A lot of talented players were made available at the 2020 NFL Draft, and Belichick made a few wise moves.

The Patriots have a talented linebacker

On Day 2 of the draft, Coach B drafted two EDGE players. Michigan’s Uche was the 60th overall pick. Jennings from Alabama is the 87th overall. The team has now signed Uche to a four-year contract. The information was confirmed by several sources including his agent Drew Rosenhaus. Uche is the highest 2020 NFL Draft pick to sign a contract to this moment as confirmed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Uche is the first draft pick to ink a rookie contract with the Pats.

Belichick traded up to select Uche 60th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. New England had Uche as the second selection this week. The team made Division II Lenoir-Rhyne safety Kyle Dugger 37th overall.

New England picked 10 total players in the draft. They also got fifteen undrafted free agents. The team first had 16, but one of the players didn’t make the list of picks.

It’s interesting to note that New England didn’t add a quarterback despite the fact that Tom Brady left the organization in free agency. Losing Brady was a big blow for the Patriots organization, but they always have a backup plan. Is Jarrett Stidham part of this backup plan? Maybe Trevor Lawrence fits that plan better. Let’s wait and see where will Belichick go next.
