Report: Details Emerge Of Marqise Lee’s Contract With Patriots

The New England Patriots got Marqise Lee on Day 1 of the 2020 NFL Draft. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick got him right after the Jacksonville Jaguar cut him. Ben Volin from The Boston Globe has the details of Marqise Lee’s contract with the Patriots.

New England offered Lee a one-year contract at the veteran minimum. His contract brings along a $300,000 guarantee, and Lee has a chance to earn $1.0475 million. If he gets a spot on the Patriots roster, his cap number will reach $887,500.

The 28-year-old is a former second-round selection. In 2018, he inked a four-year contract with the Jaguars. His contract was worth $34 million contract with $16.5 guaranteed.

This happened before Lee sustained knee injuries during his final two seasons. He was able to catch three passes for 18 yards in 2019. When healthy, Lee’s performance reached high levels.

In 2017, the former USC player had 56 catches for 702 catches for 702 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games. 2016 was his only 16-game season. He had 63 catches for 851 yards and three touchdowns.

Marqise Lee’s contract comes at the right time

The New England Patriots need Lee in full health. He was really successful after college, and Belichick can really use his potential.

New England is entering a new season. Star quarterback Tom Brady is not on the roster. He signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. TB12 is also taking his favorite target with him. Rob Gronkowski came out of his retirement to sign a deal with the Buccaneers.

The Patriots selected 10 players in the 2020 NFL Draft and signed another 15 undrafted free agents. Belichick covered the positions that were left empty after the 2019 season. New England lost several key players in free agency.

Jarrett Stidham will probably start the games in September. Belichick is confident about his productivity, and he will probably finish the season as a starting quarterback for the Patriots. This will be a rather challenging season for the Patriots. But, Belichick really likes t the players he signed in the past few days. 2020 is a big season for the Patriots and the renewed roster.
