Lakers Re-Signing Dwight Howard This Offseason Could be Tricky

The Los Angeles Lakers have the best chances to win the NBA Championship this season. They reached the top in the West thanks to LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the rest of the guys on the roster. Every Lakers player had a great contribution to the game, and this also includes Dwight Howard.

Before the suspension, the Lakers defeated their city rivals, the Clippers, and the Milwaukee Bucks. This makes them the perfect contender, and LeBron is actually keeping his promise.

This success is actually a result of the offseason move LA made to acquire Anthony Davis. Trading for Davis was the biggest move LA made, but truth is, the team made other effective moves. Here we’d list Howard’s signing.

DeMarcus Cousins was out due to an ACL tear, and the Lakers used the chance to sign Howard for a second sting with the team. In his first sting with the team, Howard wasn’t really productive, and many analysts were shocked to see him return. However, Howard used his second chance and it turned out really well for both him and the Lakers.

Will the Lakers keep Dwight Howard around?

In the 2019-20 season, Howard played like a high-energy player for the Lakers off the bench. He gave the Lakers excellent defense and rebounding. Howard is making the veteran’s minimum, he is actually a steal for the team.

This offseason, Howard will hit free agency again. LA will have to make a big decision. A smart decision. They are working on a big deal to keep Davis around. Davis’ deal is not the only priority at the moment. In other words, the Lakers won’t have too much money to keep all the players for the upcoming season.

Howard deserves more money than the veteran minimum he receives now. LA gave him a chance to “resurrect” his career, so maybe he will give them a discount. Maybe he will be interested in turning his performance into money. If that’s the case, LA will have to part ways with the talented player.

Davis has been linked with his hometown team, so maybe the Lakers will have to try extra hard to keep him.
