“We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of former Patriots Reche Caldwell,” the Patriots organization tweeted Sunday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

Ben Watson, Wes Welker, Asante Samuel, Tom Brady and many others paid tribute to Reche.

“Always kept us laughing and light hearted,” Watson said. ‘Always had the biggest smile. Always had the greatest stories. Sad to hear about the passing of my teammate Reche Caldwell. May the Lord comfort his family during this time.”

“So sad to hear this,” former Patriot receiver Wes Welker tweeted. “Reche’s smile and attitude were contagious! My thoughts and prayers go out to Bubba Caldwell and his family!”

Welker played with Caldwell in San Diego in 2004.

Reche Caldwell will be remembered after his death

The Chargers drafted Reche in the second round with the 48th overall selection in the 2002 NFL Draft. He had great performance at Florida and snatched 141 passes for 2,088 yards (14.8 yards per reception) and 18 touchdowns.

The former Patriots wide receiver started three playoff games for the Pats. He had 16 catches for 176 yards (11.0 yards per reception) and one TD in those three contests. The Patriots lost the battle to the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship back then.

The former University of Florida talent saw action in six seasons in the NFL for the Chargers (2002-05), Patriots (2006) and Washington Redskins (2007). Caldwell snatched 152 catches for 1,851 yards (12.2 yards per reception) and 11 touchdowns during his football career.

The Patriots lost a great teammate, and investigators will have to determine what really happened yesterday. The Caldwell family is going through a nightmare, and they have some really serious questions. Hopefully, they will find the answers to each of those questions. Caldwell was a great player, and his teammates had great words for him.
